Lares Trek 4 Days Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco to Lares, Trek to Huacahuasi
On the first day, trekkers leave Cusco early in the morning, driving for about five hours to reach Lares. The journey passes through beautiful Andean landscapes, and once in Lares, trekkers enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs before starting the hike. The first day’s trek leads to Huacahuasi, a traditional village at 3,750 meters, where hikers can experience local weaving techniques and enjoy the scenic surroundings before camping for the night.

Day 2: Huacahuasi to Ipsaycocha Pass
The second day is the most challenging, as trekkers tackle the Ipsaycocha Pass at an altitude of 4,450 meters. The route offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After reaching the pass, hikers descend to the serene Ipsaycocha Lake, where they set up camp. The day’s trek takes about five to six hours, with opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the Andes.

Day 3: Ipsaycocha to Ollantaytambo
On the third day, trekkers descend through beautiful valleys and pass by remote villages like Patacancha and Huilloc. Along the way, they get a glimpse of local life, seeing how the indigenous people live, work, and weave their textiles. The trek ends in Ollantaytambo, a charming town known for its Inca ruins, where hikers can relax and prepare for the final leg of the journey to Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu

On the final day, trekkers take a short train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
